Stark Statement on Need to Prevent Looming 27% Cut in Medicare Physician Payments

Congressman Stark spoke about the urgent need for Congress to fix an ongoing problem -- the flawed formula by which Medicare pays doctors -- during his opening statement at a recent Ways and Means Health Subcommittee hearing. Since its creation a decade ago, Congress has failed to permanently fix this formula, which results in repeated short-term patches and a mounting price tag to correct it.

Stark's Floor Speech on Need to Extend Unemployment Benefits

Congressman Stark has cosponsored legislation to extend unemployment insurance through 2012. If Congress fails to do so, more than 305,000 Californians will lose these critical benefits -- that help people make ends meet while they search for work -- in January alone.

Stark Introduces the Save Our Climate Act

This legislation would levy a carbon tax on fossil fuels in order to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, spur development of alternative energy, protect consumers from rising energy costs, mitigate climate change, and reduce our deficit. The majority of the revenue raised would be paid in a dividend to individuals in order to offset increased fuel and energy prices.
