NEWS – CONGRESSMAN PETE STARK 239 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 (202) 225-5065 www.stark.house.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, October 21, 2009 CONTACT: Brian Cook, (202) 225-3202
STARK STATEMENT ON CMS ACTUARY ANALYSIS OF H.R. 3200
WASHINGTON – House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chair Pete Stark (D-CA) today commented on a partial analysis of H.R. 3200, as reported by the Committee on Ways and Means in July by the Chief Actuary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services: "I welcome CMS Actuary Rick Foster's input as we work to ensure affordable health care for all. In some respects this analysis is consistent with that of CBO, but there are also some dramatic departures. It is also incomplete* and out-of-date relative to what will ultimately be voted on in the House of Representatives. As Ways and Means Republicans reminded us often when they were in the majority, the only analysis that matters at the end of the day is that of the Congressional Budget Office."

*The analysis fails to consider the revenue offsets that were included in the bill, which ensured that it is fully paid for; it also does not contemplate Division C, which addresses public health, research and workforce development provisions and would help address some of the concerns cited in the analysis regarding system capacity. |
